How to Clean Stovetops Like a Pro

KEY PRO TIPS
  • When cleaning your stove tops, adjust the dilution of dish soap to water ratio, depending on the circumstances.
  • After using a polish on your surface, do not rinse. Use a Microfiber buffing or glass towel to get the desired shine.

What's so hard about having a clean stove top? Nothing, if you know how to clean stove tops correctly! The issue is most people don't take the proper steps and precautions when cleaning their crusty and greasy stove tops, resulting in poor results. So we've asked a couple of cleaning business owners what they do to get them clean for their clients. You'll learn:

  • How to break down grease and burnt on food from your stove top.
  • How to safely scrape off burnt on and crusty food without scratching.
  • What tools professional cleaners are currently using.

How We Clean Stovetops at "Winston Salem Cleaning Service"

Our method at Winston Salem Cleaning Service is designed to save time & effort, while maintaining maximum effectiveness.

1. Remove Loose Food and Debris From Your Stovetop's Surface

The first cleaning step is to get a microfiber towel wet with only water. Wipe the stove top, collecting all the loose food and debris you can. Always make sure the stove top is off and cool to touch.

2. Remove Crusty Stuck-On Food and Heavy Soils

  • Spray your stove top with a basic kitchen degreaser, this will start to break down the stuck on food. We find that using a tablespoon of Dawn dish soap in a 16 oz spray bottle works great as a stove top cleaner. Adjust your dilution ration of Dish Soap and water depending on what the job calls for.
  • Take the razor blade scraper and gently remove the food & residue. The soapy liquid provides a slippery surface and prevents the blade from scratching the glass cooktop, so re-wet as needed.
  • Continue until all the food is removed, and finish with a plain water rinse. Don’t forget to wipe the control knobs and any other stove surface.

3. Use Finishing Touches to Make Your Stovetop Shine

Add a nice finishing touch by applying polish to your stove top . Use a small amount of the cook-top cleaner and wipe evenly with a damp microfiber cloth. This polish will make the surface shine. We like to use Magic Cooktop Cleaner & Polish.Do not rinse, but dry with a clean microfiber buffing towel or glass towel.

Why We Do It This Way

By spraying the dish soap on the cook-top surface, you break down grease, and provide a slippery surface to prevent the razor blade from scratching. Dish soap is safe, effective and affordable. Additionally, you can adjust the dilution ratio for different circumstances. Finishing everything with a plain water rinse removes excess chemical, reduces streaks, and leaves the best shine. Experiment with both the dry MW Pro towel and the Lightweight Microfiber Glass Towel to see what works best in your location. The Buff™ Microfiber Towels are all purpose towels, meaning they are great for any surface and any application (drying, cleaning, polishing, etc.). The microfiber glass towels are more specific for drying, and work extremely well as a glass stove top cleaner. Happy Cleaning!

How We Do it at "Made By Design"

Since the kitchen can be one of the most time-consuming areas of a house, we check it first to see how much grease and food spatters we must deal with.

1. Loosening Up Food and Grease on Stovetop, Grates, and Burners

Start by pretreating the top and burners of the stove. We spray a degreaser and let dwell. For greasy and food encrusted grates we soak in the sink with hot water and dish soap, while we clean bathrooms and most of the kitchen.

2. Removing Hard Stuck-On Food

  • On a first-time cleaning if the food is burnt on the stove top around the burners, we use a small amount of oven cleaner, such as EASY-OFF® Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner to remove it. We find it be one of the best stove top cleaners.
  • If you have baked on food, remove it with a razor scraper, or pumice stone. Make sure you are only using the pumice stone only on baked enamel, if you have a stainless-steel stove it will scratch.
  • Clean cracks and crevices with a grout brush.
  • For a gas stove top cleaning, we remove the burners and with the grout brush and degreaser clean around everything under the burner. When the grease is hard to remove we use a stronger strength solution of Hydroxipro.
  • For an electric stove top cleaning, also known as Ceramic Stove Tops, start by using the degreaser and razor scraper for cooked on food. You cannot get to the drip pans on an electric stove as easily as gas. We remove the element, set it aside and soak or just wipe out the drip pans with the degreaser and a microfiber towel.
  • When all is removed we wipe down top front and sides with a microfiber towel.

Why We Do it This Way

There is nothing more important than saving our customers money and our technicians time and wear and tear on their bodies. We want to get and give the best bang for the buck. Soaking keeps scrubbing and scraping to a minimum. Using the right tools cuts time. Knowing the chemicals, you use and how they work is extremely important on today's high end surfaces.
