Often we get calls and emails from customers who ask how to care for their new microfiber towels, mops and dusters. There are a few guidelines that should be followed in regard to laundering microfiber and you can find more about the wash process here.

Today I wanted to focus on drying microfiber. If you’ve ever noticed that your microfiber has become less absorbent and less soft with age, it could be because you’re drying it too hot. Microfiber is durable, so durable that a microfiber towel or mop can last hundreds of washings when cared for properly. That said, since each fiber is so tiny, 1/20th the diameter of silk, it’s pretty delicate and can be damaged by heat. Take a look at that image to the right. It shows a cross section of a single fiber. Notice all the edges on the fiber, all the surface area? The edges give microfiber its scrubbing power and the surface area gives microfiber its absorbency. Those tiny little edges will degrade over time; the degradation is accelerated by heat!

Typical residential clothes dryers reach 170°F inside the drum. If you can avoid it, don’t dry microfiber on high heat. We recommend low heat or no heat if possible. The absolute best option is to let your microfiber air dry. Following these tips will help you extend the life of your microfiber.

Vermop® Twixter is an innovative mopping system that features two sided microfiber mops that attach and detach from the tool without the user actually touching the mop.

We were first introduced to Vermop® by a customer. The customer is an EVS manager at a hospital who buys microfiber towels from us. We asked about getting his microfiber mop business and he said he hadn’t bought mops in over 5 years. We were intrigued. He went on to explain that he used a German made microfiber mop called Vermop®. He used the Twixter System. He told us that it’s been so long since he’s bought mops because the mops he has haven’t worn out. He estimated that each mop had been laundered well over 500 times. We haven’t wash tested these mops that long, but we’ve also never seen microfiber mops that are as well made as these. After looking at these mops, it’s easy to believe that they could last that long.

The quality of these mops isn’t the only thing that makes them better than any other microfiber mop we’ve seen. They’re also unique because they’re two sided. Because you have two cleaning surfaces per mop you cut your cleaning time down significantly. They also feature a frame that allows you to pick up and release a mop without touching it! These are really exceptional mops. When I took one home to play around with it I was excited to mop my floor, truly excited. When I used it, I was blown away by how well it worked.

We’re stocking several versions of this mop to start out with. They’re all 17” long and about 5.5” wide. That give you roughly the same amount of surface area as our regular 20” Microfiber Wet Mop Pad.

Twixter Tronic: The Tronic is a wet/damp mop. It features a unique blend of microfiber, cotton and polyester. Most microfiber mops are microfiber and polyester, by adding the cotton it lets the cleaning solution release slower allowing you to cover more area before changing or remoistening the mop. The cotton also helps it release debris such as hair during laundering.

Twixter White Magic: The White Magic is meant to be use damp or dry. This mop is a blend of microfiber and polyester. The blended yarn is similar in content to a regular microfiber mop pad. It offers superior cleaning power and soil retention. It’s great for cleaning any type of floor, but is exceptional at cleaning textured floors.

Twixter Double Brush: The Double Brush is a microfiber scrubber mop. It features polyester and microfiber blended yarn with strips of aggressive, yet non abrasive polypropylene. It’s a great for dirty floors like kitchen and restrooms. They work exceptionally well on tile or concrete floors. The Double Brush can be used wet or dry.

Twixter Ceran: The Ceran is meant to be used dry only. It’s made with 100% microfiber face yarn. This is an incredible microfiber dust mop. Its electrostatic properties attract dust without chemicals. These mops glide easily across the floor. They’re great for pre-cleaning before wet mopping, or for routine maintenance between deeper cleanings with a wet mop like the Tronic or White Magic.

Twixter Holder: The Twixter Holder is the backbone of this system. The Holder (frame) allows you to pick up and release the mops without actually touching them. It is really easy to maneuver making this system great for any environment even working around furniture and restroom fixtures. It also flips over to give you a new, clean mop surface to use.

Twixter Telescoping Handle: The handle is a very well made handle that will telescope from 38” to 65”. The handle allows you to adjust the the proper height and lock it into place (for more info on the proper height see our article on Ergonomic Mopping)

Twixter Mop Cart and Wringer: The Twixter Cart and Wringer is great two part wringing system. The frame is made from stainless steel, the casters come with bumper guards. The two high impact plastic buckets are color coated, use one for clean water and one for waste water. The wringer is very well made and doesn’t require much effort to wring out the mop. All in all, it’s by far the best system for wringing out a microfiber mop.

We just added a 12"x12" Disposable Microfiber Towel to MicrofiberWholesale.com. We've had a larger disposable microfiber towel available for years, and people love them. Because they've been so popular we decided to bring in the smaller version.

These towels are great for any cleaning job that needs the cleaning power of microfiber, but would ruin a regular microfiber towel. They're also great for healthcare applications as a single use disinfecting cloth.

Another GREAT application for these towels is at home. These towels are machine washable, so wouldn’t they make a great alternative to paper towels? According to multiple sources, Americans send 3000 tons of paper towels to landfills every year. Imagine if we could stop using so many of them and we switched to these towels? They're cheap. They're reusable (you can expect to get a dozen or more washings out of these towels). They're far more absorbent than paper towels. They clean much better than paper towels. What’s not to like?

If you want to give them a try go here for ordering info!

As you might have guessed, it's made from steel. This means it's going to be really durable. It works with our Heavy Duty Microfiber Mop Frames.

While our Heavy Duty Handles are pretty stout, like any other aluminum handle they are prone to being bent especially when being transported. Over the years a number of customers have told us that regardless of where they buy the handles, they do get damaged when traveling from cleaning job to cleaning job. We’re pretty confident that this handle will eliminate that problem.

Like our other microfiber mop handles, this one telescopes. It starts out at 40” and extends to 60”. It has a comfortable hand grip and is finished in a dark gray powder coat. You can buy Super Duty Handles by themselves or buy the as complete microfiber mop tools.

Recently we were contacted by a vocational rehabilitation firm that works with a large grocery store chain. One of the grocery store locations had an employee that was suffering from back pain caused by mopping. Unfortunately this isn't uncommon when people are paired with the wrong tools and asked to perform a repetitive task like mopping. According to OSHA back pain is the most reported injury affecting the cleaning industry. Obviously it’s in the best interest of employers to provide their employees with the proper equipment to prevent injury and fatigue in order to reduce workers compensation costs and promote a healthy work environment.

This grocery store wanted our recommendations for the proper tools for this employee to perform her duty without being reinjured and for other employees to prevent injury. Click here to see what we told them: Ergonomic Mopping

The mop pad is 19'' long so it will work great with our 16'' and 18'' Microfiber Mop Tools. Even though we call it a disposable pad, it IS machine washable and should hold up to 6-12 launderings before breaking down. It can be used wet OR dry! The pad has a thin foam core which helps it keep its shape and store cleaning solution or disinfectant to increase the amount of space you can cover.

This disposable pad is great for disinfecting and applying floor finish. Often in hospital applications you want disposable cleaning products in bio hazard situations in order to prevent cross contamination. Because of the extremely low cost of this disposable mop pad it’s perfect for that. The cost also makes it great for floor maintenance. Since floor wax and some floor finishes ruin mops it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot on them when all that’s really needed is something to evenly spread the finish without leaving lint behind.

From our office manager:

I’ve been working at Microfiber Wholesale for almost a year now and until last week I hadn't actually taken any of the products home with me. Even though it caused me constant ridicule around here, I had been using the Swiffer wet jet and dry dust mops at home; however, when my wet jet broke I decided to give microfiber a try. I took home one of our Microfiber Mop Systems.

The dust mop cleaned my floors so much better and faster than the small swiffer dry cloths – I couldn’t believe it! One of my friends walked in and asked what I had used on my wood floors because they looked so great – I hadn’t even washed them yet! The dust pad is so much bigger that it took me half the time to clean and picked up so much more dust than the swiffer ever did. I was thrilled with the results. The wet pads were just as easy to use. I simply filled my kitchen sink with water and a half cup of my favorite floor cleaner and dropped a couple of the wet pads in to soak them. Before using them I wrung them out – really easy. The amount of dirt that they took off my kitchen floors was amazing. They really worked great and I didn’t have to scrub very hard at all to get off some of the spots that were a bit more ground in. Again, because of the size of the pads, it went by so much faster than the swiffer ever did, and I went over my floors twice, although the second time wasn’t really necessary as the first time got up all the dirt. I thought it would bother me not being able to just use and then throw away the pads, but the products worked so well that hasn’t been an issue at all. It’s really easy to just throw the used pads into the washing machine to wash them, and the added bonus is that I’m not throwing more unnecessary garbage away, therefore making the microfiber pads much more environmentally friendly. I told 4 girlfriends about how easy the cleaning was this weekend. I would recommend using the microfiber dry mops to dust your floor and microfiber wet mop pads to wash your floor anyone, they are great!!

Have you ever emptied a mop bucket and wondered how you could keep all those expensive cleaning chemicals from going down the drain? Have you ever sprayed a cleaner or disinfectant and wondered how harmful it is for you to be inhaling it? Charging buckets can solve both of these concerns.

The beauty of using microfiber with a charging bucket is nothing goes to waste. Once you get the amount of liquid per pad or towel dialed in (read more about that below), your microfiber will absorb all of it leaving the buckets dry. There are no leftover chemicals, nothing goes down the drain. Imagine being able to mop an office building, hospital patient rooms or several homes without ever wringing out a mop pad or having to transport chemicals to the job.

You can also use microfiber towels with our small charging bucket to get the same savings on chemicals and to prevent the need to spray a fine mist of chemicals which will inevitably be inhaled. Simply load up the charging bucket with towels, pour in a measured amount of disinfectant or cleaner, give the liquid time to wick through the towels then use the perfectly moistened towels to clean, scrub or disinfect.

The hard part of using the charging buckets is getting the right amount of liquid in so the microfiber will be perfectly moistened. It will take some experimenting on your end to find the right amount of moisture for your needs. We’ve spent some time experimenting with the buckets here and this is what we’ve found:

Microfiber Wet Mop Pads

Cleaning: 1.25 ounces per 6” of pad – 18” Pad would need 3.75 ounces of liquid

        Disinfecting: 1.5 - 2 ounces per 6”of pad – 18” Pad would need 4.5 - 6 ounces of liquid

Microfiber Towels

Cleaning / Scrubbing: 1.5 ounces per 12x12 towel, 2.5 ounces per 16x16 towel

        Disinfecting: 1.75 - 2 ounces per 12x12 towel, 2.875 – 3.25 ounces per 16x16 towel

For cleaning you want the microfiber to be damp, not dripping. If the microfiber’s completely saturated with liquid it has no ability to absorb soil. Conversely, when disinfecting you’re really just using the microfiber to apply the disinfectant. The microfiber should be nearly saturated. To properly disinfect a surface the surface must remain wet for an amount of time (dwell time or contact time). Refer to the label on your disinfectant for proper dwell times and adjust how much disinfectant you add to the charging bucket accordingly.
